ISA's research aims to enhance the understanding of artistic and architectural practices by developing and implementing concepts and tools to study their physical, historical, and social contexts. 

The fields of study are not limited to any specific time period or geographical area, encouraging cross-disciplinary comparisons for a comprehensive analysis of the meanings behind artistic and architectural actions.

Projects and Publications

The Institute conducts research projects that are financed on a competitive basis, often with funding from the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF). The findings of this scientific research are published in various publications, including those released by the Mendrisio Academy Press and other publishers.

Doctorate

ISA offers the possibility of pursuing a doctorate in disciplines related to the history and theory of art and architecture.
